All of our grain comes from our family farm in eastern Iowa and trusted regional growers. By sourcing locally and flaking in our food-grade facility, we add value at every step. Nothing sits in a warehouse or grows stale — every flake is made fresh when our customers need it.
Our facility is climate-controlled, automated, and built for accuracy. Each kernel is gently warmed before steam and water are applied, allowing moisture to penetrate, starches to gelatinize, and nutrients to unlock. The grain then passes through finely grooved mill drums, pressed into consistent flakes that are cooled, dried, and ready for use — a precise process designed for quality, nutrition, and reliability.
Doug and Lori Hoffman founded 1331 Flaking Co. in 2023 on their family farm in the small town of Clarence, Iowa. After decades of raising grain and livestock, they saw an opportunity to do more with what they were already producing. As Doug explains, “We wanted to add value to the commodities we raise on our farm and sell them directly to our customers.”
What began as an idea has grown into a food-grade flaking facility serving breweries, distilleries, feed mills, and bakeries. Each batch begins on their farm and with trusted regional growers, then continues in their mill, where it’s carefully processed into consistent, food-grade flakes. Nothing sits in storage—every order is made fresh and handled with the same care they’ve always put into their crops and livestock.
